- Succession planning can begin 2-3 years before the anticipated retirement date to prepare the staff and staff and board. Founders and their boards often need extra support in preparing for an unexpected or planned transition. A simple emergency plan should always be in the hands/files of board and staff leaders.
- Executive Search - For an immediate ED/CEO search, we plan on one month to prepare, one month to recruit and screen, one month to interview and one month for the candidate to give notice and prepare to start. So the new hire begins about four months after the kickoff of the process with us.
- Identifying Interim Leadership - Charitable Advisors maintains a list of retired ED/CEOs and consultants who offer interim ED/CEO services. Many of these consultants have become certified interims, showing their commitment to strengthening the organization through a transition and not merely serving as a placeholder.
